Pandemic Updates

The world is drowning in information about the pandemic, some of it useful, much of it false or dangerous. We’re using our scale and expertise to produce accurate, helpful guidance and expose dangerous myths.

From school closures to stalled economies, covid-19 is costing lives and livelihoods around the globe. It’s also widening inequalities, slowing progress on global health and social goals, including poverty reduction, universal healthcare and clean energy.

We use the time-varying reproductive number, Rt, to estimate how likely it is that infections are increasing or decreasing in a given location. Estimates have uncertainty ranges that reflect the uncertainty about the true epidemic trend. A map of Rt estimates, with their uncertainty limits, is shown below.
