A daily news report is an article which reports the most significant events of the day in a particular field of human activity. It may contain analyses, prognoses and perspectives on the development of this field. It is usually presented in a simple way without any editorial comment. The most important events are given priority and may be featured on Page One. These events include war, government, politics and the economy. Crimes (road traffic offences, murder or robbery), accidents and disasters are also reported. Some newspapers include opinion pieces by writers, often celebrities or experts in specialist fields. These articles are written to inform and entertain and often use emotive language.
Many reporters have a specific area that they cover, or ‘beat’ in newspaper lingo. Others, known as general assignment reporters, are on call to cover any story that comes up. These journalists will often have a variety of skills and can easily switch between these different types of stories.
In addition to regular daily news reports, some newspapers also publish special sections including celebrity gossip, classified ads, comics and sports. Some of these sections are even sold separately from the main newspaper.
After a reporter has finished writing a news report it is sent to another part of the news division called the copy desk. Here the editor will check for spelling errors and look for gaps in the story that could leave readers confused or with unanswered questions. They will also consult reference materials including past newspaper issues. Clear communication is the key to a productive team. FineReport helps you keep your team on the same page by making it easy to share daily reports.
